As a nurse… when outside the clinical setting, here’s the best advice I can give to all: There are two techniques for using gloves, aeseptic and clean. Aeseptic is what you would associate with a one time use during surgery. The clean is a one time use during procedures.. neither will work when out and about. They will simply cause the virus to spread and put you at risk also.

Imagine the person scanning your shopping. One is using gloves constantly.. making contact with money, people, groceries, peeling off stickers to access codes, touching their till and scanners for larger items, they may even adjust their uniform or scratch their nose as their hair gets in the way. (This is the same as you touching a trolley or basket, handling food/ bags/ door handles/ a dogs lead/ a garden gate/ the steering wheel)
The second person at the till wears no gloves, but you notice they are using handgel inbetween each shopper. They minimise the risk to themselves and to your shopping/ you by keeping the virus contained to the one experience/ exchange.
This is the same in nursing. You know when to glove up and which technique to use.
I am not wearing gloves when going about my normal day. Instead, I am using the correct hand washing technique and gel inbetween. Even when handling my bin.. I’m careful about what and how I touch things, until I’ve scrubbed my hands.
Hope this helps… get practising good hand washing… same technique for handgel ♥️
